Edilma Toro's Music Box is a blog for music I love, music that influences me, music I want to share. New music, old music… A tribute to people, artists, genres and times that have meant a lot to me along the way. And the name? Well, both my parents are music lovers. I chose my mum's name because I know she would've loved it.

SUSANA BACA LIVE AT JAZZ CAFE (LONDON)
So I'd heard of Susana Baca before... my mum used to love her voice but since I live in the UK I kind of lost track of what she was doing until last week a new friend the talented Paul Diddy told me she's now releasing on Luaka Bop (cool record label from NY) and her new album AFRODIASPORA is quite good so and I went to check out her website (hooked up by Paul) and realised she was playing that same night at Jazz Cafe! (what a coincidence!) Paul hooked me up and so I went to see her!
She literally blew my mind! Her persona on stage inspires some sort of plenitude, like if you're ready to go to the next step and leave this life. Her band was amazing and her voice so catchy and beautiful and solemn and... many many other things, I could say right now.
Here's some photos from the show:
Props to the amazing band Lokandesthat played before Susana, and her amazing bolivian woman on the panpipes!!!
go check her website to listen to the whole AFRODIASPORA album. I definitely recommend you buy it and support this amazing Peruvian artist, a true ambassador of the mixture between african and latin culture.
Listen to her latest single 'Detras de la puerta'
